Handcast individually in a luxuriously heavy material from Switzerland, and with natural mineral pigments that have varying solubilities when mixed with liquid, each pot has a unique visual texture.
The concept for the four-legged vessel in cubic proportions was sketched by hand, drawn in Adobe Illustrator, then engineer-drawn in SolidWorks and printed on a Formlabs Form 2 printer using digital stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing. The layers (z-resolution) were 25 microns thick at a resolution of 140 microns which built a smooth form. The prototype was printed in the highest quality clear resin available and then clipped from the supports, sanded, polished, and completed with wooden legs.
Medium-viscosity silicone was mixed, degassed in a vacuum chamber, and poured around the prototype to build a mould for casting a limited edition. Each individual piece is made by hand with special attention to the qualities and solubilities of the pigments, elimination of air pockets, perfection of form, variation of visual texture, and beauty of the hand-finished surface. The resultant form is consistent in footprint and profile, while the colours and visual textures are unique to each piece.
